Surprise.... I'M PREGNANT. And before you say "no way," let me tell you YES WAY.
As of today, I'm officially 12 weeks pregnant. What does that mean? It means my baby is now as big as a plum measuring about 5.3cm and weighing about 14g and will be just growing. I'm growing a baby! Isn't that insane? I'm so blown away by this whole pregnancy thing. It truly is a miracle.
I had my first ultrasound at 10 weeks. It was one of the most magical experiences I've ever had. I cried. I laughed. It was everything I've ever imagined and more. My next ultrasound is on March 21st. They're going to do an NT scan, which stands for nuchal translucency scan. In short, it'll assess my baby's risk of having Down syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalities. What this scan does is it measures the amount of fluid at the back of the baby's neck. Babies with some kind of abnormalities have a tendency to accumulate more fluid. Further, they'll also look for the baby's nasal bone. If the nasal bone isn't seen, it might indicate a chromosomal disorder.
It's all very overwhelming to say the least, but I'm trying to remain positive. I'm taking care of myself, both mentally and physically, and therefore I believe my baby is healthy.
This blog post is quite short. But don't you worry, I already have so much content planned. In my next posts, I'll talk about first trimester symptoms, nausea, antepartum depression (pregnancy depression), fitness, and so much more. I hope you'll stick around.
